Controls Engineer

Superior Sales & Service, Inc., a worldwide manufacturer of railroad equipment is looking to add to our growing team. We have an opening for a

Controls Engineer with an emphasis on hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

This is an onsite position located in Plattsmouth, NE, with no remote work available.

Job Summary:

Responsible for a wide range of engineering assignments under limited supervision. Will be responsible for all design and installation of all control 

systems for each product and training installation.

Responsibility:

  • Analyze, develop, and recommend design approaches necessary to meet production
  • requirements for new and existing products.
  • Design and develop and assist installation of mobile equipment control systems.
  • Most are hydraulic, however some electrical and pneumatic controls.
  • Provides fabrication support and assistance.
  • Participates in projects from concept through design, testing, manufacturing, and customer
  • installation.
  • Troubleshoots product failures and suggests corrective action.
  • Interfaces with drafting, testing, manufacturing, purchasing, quality control, and vendors on
  • various issues associated with product lines.
  • Reviews and approves related input such as drawings and specifications prepared by technical
  • support staff.
  • Interfaces with customers as required and provides support in the field when needed.

Complexity of Duties:

  • Works under the direction of the Engineering Manager to determine and develop approaches to solutions.
  • Ability to apply a wide range of complex engineering principles and concepts in the field.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of multiple related disciplines such as Manufacturing,
  • Hydraulics, Controls, Electrical, cost reduction.
  • Provides technical assistance and solutions to a wide range of difficult problems requiring
  • technical competence.
  • Interfaces regularly with multiple levels of the organization and vendors on issues relating to product lines. May represent our organization in 

providing solutions to difficult technical

  • problems associated with specific projects.
  • Ability to work with all the Engineering staff.

Essential Skills:

This is not an entry-level position and the candidate must be able to use Solidworks and already be familiar with controls systems (hydraulic, 

pneumatic, & electrical). To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements 

listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A high degree of technical competence and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of complex mechanical engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of Parker, IQan, Hydac, or Danfoss Plus One type of control system for large construction equipment manufacturers.
  • The applicant will be expected to complete programming for the control system.
  • Ability to operate a computer and skilled in its use.
  • Ability to support the work of engineering technicians.
  • Competence in 3D solid modeling design and drafting utilizing Solidworks.

Education and Experience:

  • Five plus years of related experience.
  • Experience in related equipment (engines, pumps, motors, valves, etc.)

 Other Skills and Abilities: 

  • Advanced technical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and customer contact communication skills.
  • Troubleshooting skills and organizational skills.
  • Skilled with word processing, spreadsheets, Solidworks CAD experience is essential.
